FAQ — Rust download size
How big is Rust download / install size?
Rust typically needs about 25 GB installed. Plan ~32 GB free for updates, shader cache, and DLC.
How much SSD space for Rust?
Keep at least 32 GB free on a fast NVMe/SSD. AAA titles update often — leaving headroom avoids “disk full” mid-patch.
Can I install Rust on an HDD?
It may run, but load times and stuttering are worse. For open-world and recent AAA, an SSD is strongly recommended.
Does Rust run on Steam Deck?
Playable casually on Deck; serious PvP is better on a desktop.
